Overall rating for baby friendly dining - 4.5/5
With its spacious dining & drinking area there are plenty of tables, we had no trouble at all finding somewhere to sit on the weekday lunchtime we visited. There was also enough space to park our buggy and fit in one of the provided highchairs at our table, we were also pleased to see clean baby changing facilities too. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly; bringing us menus immediately, taking our drink orders and providing hot water for heating up our baby food.
The food is all Italian fare with bruschetta, olives and antipasti among the starters with pizzas, pasta and salads making up the mains. The prices are very reasonable and the food we ate; mushroom ravioli and lasagne were both delicious, and for the younger visitors there is also a great kids’ menu. And don’t worry about your little ones getting bored, if you’re popping in for a coffee or sitting down to a pizza, there’s a big basket of toys to keep them entertained. With a great big garden, decking area and function room, The Stoneham seems to have everything for families whether you live in Hove or you’re just visiting.
Yummy Mummy Top Tip - They sell handy kids snack packs which include a selection of fruit, cheese, crackers and fromage frais.

Had very different experience here and we're never going back!
ReplyDeleteJust returned from 2 hours waiting for Pizzas which never arrived. Really rude, aggressive man who came to the table (me, my teenager & toddler) after we politely explained to 2 staff members that we had finished our starter over an hour before and please could we have our main course. I barely opened my mouth before he laid into me - telling me that he remembered me and he had served me at the bar only 30 minutes before. Unfortunately, he was bullshitting and intimidating the wrong woman - knew precisely when we arrived as met teen at 6.30pm & sent a text after starter so knew precisely how long we waited- 2 hours!
This was our 2nd attempt - went there last Autumn the day after it opened and 2 of us had food poisoning the next day.
Great idea - our community really needs a place like this but this is not the place and these are not the people to deliver it! Steer clear!
Couldn't agree more. I was sitting my 2 and 3 year old daughters down on a couch and having barely managed to give them a juicebox and before I could even get up to the bar to by myself a pint, one of the barman had swooped over to us and and started cutting into how rude I was for having the audacity to give my children a bit of a snack in his "child friendly" establishment from "the outside" (I have NEVER had a problem doing this ANYWHERE in Brighton, or London, or England, Spain, Italy, France, or the US in the past couple years. Not a single bar, restaurant, pub, you name it.
ReplyDeleteI could go on and on about the conversation I had with this guy (he even had the cheek to admit he also had a 2 year-old), but it's hardly worth my breath. I nor my wife nor kids nor any friends I have in the area will be going into this place again.
